Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth shaped ‘cap’ designed to fit above the entire tooth structure. The procedure is an ideal way to strengthen a tooth that has been weakened in some way.

Visit the Smile Gallery to see before and after treatment images.

You may need a crown if:

  • You have had a large filling which has weakened your tooth
  • Root canal treatment has been carried out
  • Your tooth has been fractured due to injury or accident
  • Your tooth is severely decayed
  • Your tooth has worn surfaces

Materials

Crowns are available in different materials including precious metals and porcelain. At Alpha House, we offer Emax® Zirconia, porcelain and porcelain bonded crowns to ensure a combination of aesthetic appeal, durability and strength. You can be sure that we take utmost care to meet your dental needs whilst also matching your crown to the rest of your smile.

The procedure

The dentist will need to prepare the tooth before your crown can be fitted. This involves removing the outer tissue, leaving a specially shaped core. An impression will be taken for the bespoke design of your crown and a temporary crown fitted. At your next appointment, your temporary crown will be removed. The new crown will be placed over your tooth and cemented in place permanently once you are happy with the result.

Bridges

Crowns can also be used to make a bridge, but they work slightly differently. This involves two crowns on either side of a missing tooth or teeth. The replacement teeth are bonded to the crowns on either side of the gap and rest in the gum area where there is tooth loss, creating a seamless and natural looking smile.

Before I came here I hadn't been to a dentist for nearly 30 years. It was only when my gums became sore and I kept having dreams that my teeth were about to fall out, that I finally decided I really needed to do something.

Mr Hussain completed a thorough examination, in which he took the time to really listen to me, without being at all judgemental. The treatment and recommendations that he made have completely changed how I feel about my teeth, and I am truly grateful to him and his team. If anyone is looking for a new dentist, where you are really treated as an individual, and will receive excellent care and treatment, I would certainly recommend this surgery.
